THE ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN ESP COURSE PRESENTATIONS AT HNMU: EVALUATING ITS IMPACT ON LEARNING OUTCOMES

Abstract
This research examines the influence of technology on student engagement, confidence, and learning outcomes in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) presentations at Hanoi Metropolitan University (HNMU). Data were collected from 98 final-year students enrolled in four ESP courses, emphasizing the utilization of tools such as PowerPoint, Canva, Kahoot, Quizziz, and YouTube. The findings reveal that 88% of students regularly utilize Canva, while 72% depend on PowerPoint for the creation of organized and visually engaging presentations, thereby enhancing their confidence substantially. Interactive tools such as Kahoot and Quizziz, utilized by 45% and 40% of students respectively, improve audience engagement through the facilitation of real-time interaction. Challenges, including technical difficulties reported by 43% and an overemphasis on design over content at 40%, underscore the necessity for balanced training. Interviews with instructors and students highlight that although technology enhances presentation quality, structured support is necessary to maximize the effectiveness of tool utilization. This study concludes that enhanced guidance can enable digital tools to substantially improve the effectiveness of ESP presentations, thereby facilitating the development of students' professional communication skills.
