An overview of wood processing industry from national competitive theory framework

Wood processing industry has become one of the main export industries of Viet Nam in recent years. The value of industry’s export products has continuously increased recently. Although it has been achieved many achievements, the competitiveness of the industry is considered not high as expectation. Base on theoretical and practical overview, using system approach method, this article aim to apply Porter’s diamond model in analysis the situation of Viet Nam wood processing industry. The results shown that it is necessary to implement some solutions as follow to improve the competitive advantage of the industry: 1) Take the initiative in source of timber materials for production and processing; 2) Enhance product design and processing technology; 3) Improve working skills for workers; 4) Enhance the efficiency of export activities and trade promotion.
