The situation of societal multilingualism and using language in area of ethnic minorities in Tuyen Quang province

This article reveals the findings from a study on sociolinguistics in April 2019 in Tuyen Quang province where conversations and in-depth interviews with responsible agencies related to the ethnic affairs of the province, some districts, communes and villages were conducted. Moreover, the situation of language use in different contexts of communication were observed. In addition, conversations and interviews with prestigious people and the locals in the localities were implemented;
besides, a survey questionnaire (anket) was employed as another instrument for the study. From the ethnography, the article uncaps linguistic competence and language use in ethnic minority areas in the province. The situation of the people’s language
use and wishes found from the study poses some linguistic issues, thereby,
suggesting some solutions to the sustainable development of the province in general, and ethnic minority localities in particular.
