Abstract

Tay folk songs include phong slư, Lượn, Quan lang, then, Phuối pác, Phuối rọi, Vén noọng nòn...

From a linguistic point of view, this article presents some common symbols of three distinctive types of folk songs of the Tay people: Lượn, Quan lang, Then.

The linguistic symbols commonly encountered in Tay folk songs are divided into two groups: the group of symbols representing "beauty, aspiration" (bjoóc (flower), fượng/ fượng hoàng (phoenix), nổc loan (loan bird) ), ẻn (swallow), cấu (the bridge), mjầu (betel), ngoảng (cicada), vạ/ bân (heaven), phải rằm khấư (wet-dry cloth)); a group of symbols representing "difficulties and challenges" (tàng (road), kéo (pass), nặm lậc (deep water), nặm noòng (floodwater), lần phải làn tàng (fabric rope blocking the road)) … In these two groups of symbols, the Tay people use the symbols of "beauty, aspiration" more. The most commonly used linguistic symbols are in lượn. In Tay folk songs, these symbols help to tell about the struggles for happiness and the aspirations of generations of Tay ethnic.
