Dioscorea persimilis Prain et Burkill is an indigenous plant species of Bac Kan province with high nutritional and medicinal value. This study was conducted during 2020-2021, aiming to evaluate the effect of NPK fertilizer on the growth, yield and pest and disease situation of D. persimilis in Cho Don district, Bac Kan province. The research was comprised of 4 NPK fertilizer treatments (treatment 1: 1.0 ton/ha; treatment 2: 1.3 tons/ha; treatment 3: 1.5 tons/ha; treatment 4: 1.7 tons/ha) in addition to the basal fertilization of 7 tons of Que Lam microbial organic fertilizer. As a result, NPK fertilization did not affect the growth parameters of the mountain yam except for stem diameter. Application of 1.5 – 1.7 tons of NPK (13-13-13+TE) resulted in the highest yam productivity among the four treatments, while the rate of 1.7 tons of NPK/ha produced the highest economic efficiency. Diaphania indica and Arna pseudoconspersa were two major pests found in the yam experiment. However, their damage levels were insignificant. Therefore, application of 1.7 tons of NPK in addition to a basal amount of 7 tons of microbial organic fertilizer is recommended in yam production.
